Delhi Blast Near Red Fort: Nine Killed, Over 20 Injured

A powerful explosion occurred near Delhi’s Red Fort at around 6:52 PM on Monday evening. The blast took place inside a moving car, causing massive damage to nearby parked vehicles. The incident left nine people dead and 24 injured.

Initially, reports claimed 11 casualties, but three hours later, Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that eight deaths had been verified. Later, an official statement from the hospital listed nine deaths.

Home Minister Shah said, “The explosion occurred in the rear part of an i20 car.” According to Delhi Police sources, the car was registered in Gurugram, Haryana under the name Salman. Police have detained Salman for questioning. He reportedly sold the car to a man named Tariq from Pulwama.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that the blast took place near Gate No. 1 of Fort Metro Station. The area has been cordoned off, and a forensic team is investigating the scene to determine the cause of the explosion.

Authorities are currently probing whether the explosion was due to a technical fault, an accident, or a planned terror attack. Security has been heightened in and around central Delhi, including the Red Fort and nearby metro stations.
