CP Radhakrishnan Named NDA’s Vice Presidential Candidate
CP Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Maharashtra, has been chosen as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the Vice President of India. The decision was made during the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting held on August 17.
BJP President JP Nadda announced the nomination during a press conference. The meeting was attended by key leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and others.
Radhakrishnan is set to file his nomination on August 21. All Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are expected to be present during the nomination event. His full name is Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan. He previously served as the Governor of Jharkhand in 2023.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with voting and counting both taking place on the same day. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until August 25.
The election comes after the sudden resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on the night of July 21. Dhankhar, who is 74, had a term that was supposed to continue until August 10, 2027.
