Commonwealth Games 2030 to be Held in India

India has been awarded the hosting rights for the Commonwealth Games 2030. The games will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This is the first major international sports event India will host since the 2010 Delhi Games. At the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, 74 countries approved India's proposal.

India presented Ahmedabad as a modern and culturally rich city capable of making the 100th anniversary of the Games memorable. The proposal highlighted India's youth power, big dreams, and passion for sports. The official announcement created a vibrant atmosphere with performances by 20 Garba dancers and 30 dhol players from the Indian community in Glasgow and other Commonwealth countries.

100-Year Celebration in Ahmedabad

Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, expressed his happiness: “This is a new golden beginning for the Commonwealth Games. Glasgow in 2026 will be spectacular, and in 2030 Ahmedabad will celebrate 100 years. India will bring its scale, youth energy, culture, and love for sports. Many countries have also shown interest in hosting the 2034 and later Games.”

P.T. Usha, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, said: “We are grateful for the trust of the Commonwealth family. The 2030 Games will not only celebrate 100 years but also lay the foundation for the next century. Athletes, communities, and cultures from all Commonwealth countries will come together.”

The first Commonwealth Games were held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. The 2030 Games in Ahmedabad will become one of the most significant events in the history of these Games.
