China's Cheap AI Models Challenge the US, Trump Warns of DeepSeek's Threat
Former US President Donald Trump has warned that China's new AI model, DeepSeek, poses a significant challenge to the United States. He has urged American companies to work on improving their AI models to stay competitive. In addition, Trump is advocating for the development of new defense systems like the Iron Dome, and he plans to sign an executive order to begin work on this.
Trump referred to the release of DeepSeek by the Chinese company as a warning for American industries. He stressed that the US must focus on competing and innovating, instead of spending billions of dollars. The release of DeepSeek has already caused a significant drop in the stock value of NVIDIA, the American chip maker supplying semiconductors for the AI industry, with a market value loss of $600 billion. Shortly after his inauguration, Trump announced a $500 billion investment in AI infrastructure, creating a new company called Stargate, in partnership with Oracle, SoftBank, and OpenAI.
Additionally, Trump has emphasized the need to develop a missile defense system similar to Israel's Iron Dome. He plans to sign an executive order to begin the construction of the Iron Dome in the United States. Trump stated that the US must immediately begin developing the advanced Iron Dome missile defense system. Israel has been using this system since 2011, developed with US cooperation and the Rafael Advanced Defense Systems in mind, to counter rocket attacks. The Israeli military and government claim that the Iron Dome is the most advanced air defense system in the world, with a success rate of over 90%.
