Cheetahs Released in Kuno National Park

On 5th February, five cheetahs were released into the open forest of Kuno National Park by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. This group included two adult female cheetahs, Asha and Dhira, along with three cubs born in Kuno. The release marks a significant milestone as all three cubs were born in the park itself.

During the release event, it was notable that when the gate of the cage opened, the cheetah quickly flipped over and rushed out. This thrilling moment symbolized the cheetahs’ return to the wild. Chief Minister Yadav expressed his joy, saying that the release of these cheetahs would help rejuvenate the forest and increase tourism in the region.

The Forest Officer of Kuno, Thirukural, mentioned that two cheetahs, Agni and Vayu, were released into the park in December 2024 and are now roaming freely within the park boundaries. With the release of five more cheetahs on 5th February 2025, the total number of cheetahs freely roaming Kuno National Park has now reached seven.

This release of cheetahs into the wild is an important step toward boosting tourism in Kuno National Park and enhancing its reputation as a key wildlife destination. The event is a major achievement for wildlife conservation and a symbol of the growing success of the project to bring cheetahs back to India.
