वायु प्रदूषण के संकट से निपटने के लिए केंद्र ने 8 नवंबर को सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देश पर कैबिनेट सचिव राजीव गौबा की अगुवाई में हुई उच्च स्तरीय बैठक में दिए हैं। बैठक में वन एवं पर्यावरण मंत्रालय की सचिव लीना नंदन सहित कृषि, ऊर्जा और शहरी विकास मंत्रालय के सचिवों के अतिरिक्त पंजाब, हरियाणा, उत्तर प्रदेश सहित सभी पड़ोसी राज्यों के मुख्य सचिव व डीजीपी, प्रदूषण बोर्ड से जुड़े वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौजूद थे। करीब तीन घंटे चली इस उच्च स्तरीय बैठक में सुप्रीम कोर्ट के निर्देशानुसार वायु प्रदूषण की गंभीर स्थिति से निपटने के फौरी और दीर्घकालिक उपायों पर भी लंबी चर्चा की गई। इस बीच सभी राज्यों ने अपने-अपने प्रस्ताव भी दिए।

दिल्ली ने इस दौरान ऑड-ईवन फार्मूले को लागू करने का प्रस्ताव रखा, जिसे कैबिनेट सचिव ने यह कहते हुए खारिज कर दिया गया कि यह उपयुक्त नहीं है। इसके अतिरिक्त दूसरे विकल्पों पर विचार किया जाए। खासकर दिल्ली में जो भी स्मॉग टावर लगाए गए है, उन्हें चलना सुनिश्चित कराया जाए। मौजूदा समय में इनमें से ज्यादा बंद है या कुछ ही समय वो चलते हैं। सड़कों पर पानी के छिड़काव में तेजी लायी जाए, साथ ही सड़कों की सफाई में इस बात का ध्यान रखा जाए, कि धूल न उड़े। इसके लिए मशीनों के जरिए सड़कों की सफाई को प्राथमिकता दी जाए।

To deal with the air pollution crisis, the Center has given a high-level meeting led by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on November 8 on the instructions of the Supreme Court. In the meeting, Forest and Environment Ministry Secretary Leena Nandan along with Secretaries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Energy and Urban Development, Chief Secretaries and DGPs of all the neighboring states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and senior officers associated with the Pollution Board were present in the meeting.In this high-level meeting that lasted for about three hours, there was a long discussion on immediate and long-term measures to deal with the serious situation of air pollution as per the instructions of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, all the states also gave their respective proposals. During this period, Delhi proposed to implement the odd-even formula, which was rejected by the Cabinet Secretary saying that it was not suitable.Apart from this, other options should be considered. Especially whatever smog towers have been installed in Delhi, they should be ensured to be functional. At present, most of these are closed or they operate only for short periods of time. Sprinkling of water on the roads should be expedited and while cleaning the roads, care should be taken to ensure that dust does not blow. For this, priority should be given to cleaning roads through machines.
