BSF Creates First Women Drone Unit 'Durga'

The Border Security Force (BSF) is establishing its first women drone unit named 'Durga'. Female officers and personnel are undergoing six-week advanced drone operations training at the School of Drone Warfare, BSF Academy, Tekanpur. Officials note that in current scenarios, warfare is increasingly technology-driven rather than force-driven.

The training includes drone flying, controlling, and collecting data for surveillance missions. The unit is being prepared to counter drone-related threats along India's borders. Officers from the Punjab sector, along the Pakistan border, who played a crucial role in countering drone attacks during Operation Sindoor, are part of this squad.

The program recognizes women's qualities such as patience, precision, and determination and integrates them into drone operations. The aim is to empower female officers and personnel with modern technology for active participation in border management and security.

Training also covers counter-drone measures, electronic detection, and response systems. Additionally, trainees are being equipped with skills for drone-assisted search and rescue operations and disaster response. This specialized training enhances the technical capabilities of women and prepares them to be integral to future smart border security systems, inspired by BSF DG Daljeet Singh Chaudhary.
