On November 10, women officers of the Border Security Force (BSF) who participated in Operation Sindoor against Pakistan's drone attacks are undergoing a 6-week drone commando training at BSF's Techanpur Academy in Gwalior. Their selection is based on the bravery shown during the operation.
The BSF has launched its first all-women drone squadron, named 'Durga Drone Squadron', and women personnel are being trained to handle advanced drone technology. The training is conducted at the School of Drone Warfare in Gwalior and aims to equip female officers with modern skills for border management and security.
During training, women commandos are being taught how to operate drones, control them, and collect surveillance data for intelligence missions. According to BSF, under the inspiration of DG Daljit Chaudhary, this initiative marks a new chapter in BSF history, recognizing that modern warfare is driven more by technology than force.
The training program, led by Dr. Shamsher Singh, IPS, ADG, aims to integrate women's unique qualities of patience, accuracy, and determination into drone-operated operations. Women officers are learning about counter-drone measures, electronic detection systems, and response protocols. They are also being trained for rescue operations and disaster assistance using drones.
This initiative not only enhances the technical capabilities of women commandos but also prepares them to become an integral part of future smart border security systems. The training enhances real-time intelligence gathering, data analysis, and decision-making skills, ensuring that the women squadron can perform their duties with precision, speed, and confidence.
The BSF's School of Drone Warfare in Gwalior currently offers specialized courses like Drone Commando Course, Drone Warrior Course, and Drone Orientation Course for personnel across the country, strengthening India's border security capabilities.
