Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto Remove 10-Minute Delivery Promise
Now, the delivery boy won’t bring your order in 10 minutes. Quick-commerce companies like Blinkit have removed the "10-minute delivery" claim. This change comes after a strike by delivery boys and government intervention. In a recent meeting with the government, Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto assured that they will no longer make time-bound promises in advertisements.
The meeting was held with the Union Minister of Labour, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, where three important decisions were made. The Minister clarified that the business models of these companies should not put workers' lives at risk. A 10-minute deadline not only jeopardizes the safety of riders but also increases risks for other road users. The government is now working on a comprehensive policy to ensure social security and better working conditions for gig workers.
These companies will now change their marketing strategy. Until now, the '10-minute delivery' promise was their biggest USP. However, the companies clarified that they would not compromise on operational efficiency but would no longer build unrealistic expectations in customers' minds through advertisements that put pressure on riders.
Recently, there has been criticism on social media and various platforms about the 10-15 minute delivery service. Experts believe that the pressure of delivering within such a short timeframe forces riders to drive faster and jump red lights. Road safety organizations have also urged the government to intervene on this matter.
