Belgium Beats India 1-0 to Win Sultan Azlan Shah Cup
On 30 November, Belgium defeated India 1-0 in a thrilling final at Kuala Lumpur to win the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament for the first time. India had to settle for the silver medal after Thibeau Stockbrokx scored in the 34th minute. This was Belgium's first Sultan Azlan Shah title, and the team was playing the tournament for only the second time.
India, who had beaten Canada 14-3 on 29 November, could not convert any of the three penalty corners into goals. Jugraj Singh, Amit Rohidas, and Sanjay performed well during the tournament but failed to breach Belgium’s defense in the final. With experienced players resting, the young players performed admirably despite the loss.
Belgium maintained possession, applied pressure, and scored the decisive goal in the 34th minute. India tried to equalize in the final quarter but could not break Belgium’s defense.
