Barcelona Wins 29th La Liga Title After Defeating Real Madrid
Barcelona defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at Camp Nou on May 10 to win the Spanish football tournament La Liga title for the second consecutive time and the 29th time overall.
In this El Clasico clash, goals from Marcus Rashford in the 9th minute and Ferran Torres in the 18th minute secured Barcelona’s victory. The win gave Barcelona an unbeatable 14-point lead over Madrid with three league matches remaining.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was present in the dugout despite the passing of his father before the match. Players from both teams wore black armbands as a mark of respect.
Even a draw in this match would have been enough for Barcelona to secure the championship. Real Madrid has won a record 36 La Liga titles but has never managed to win the trophy in consecutive seasons.
Rashford scored Barcelona’s opening goal from a free kick, while Ferran Torres doubled the lead inside the penalty area after a pass from Dani Olmo.
Real Madrid missed the presence of star player Kylian Mbappe, who could not play due to injury. Mbappe remains the league’s top scorer with 24 goals this season.
