Amit Shah to Launch National Cooperative Policy 2025 on July 24
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will unveil the National Cooperative Policy 2025 on July 24, aimed at transforming India’s cooperative movement. This policy is designed to revive the cooperative sector, make it technology-driven, and empower the vision of a developed India.
The goal is to establish at least one cooperative society in every Panchayat to ensure grassroots reach. This new policy is expected to guide the Indian cooperative movement for the next two decades.
Currently, India follows the cooperative policy introduced in 2002. Since then, the country has undergone major changes in digital, economic, and social spheres. The new policy aligns with modern challenges and opportunities to ensure effectiveness and impact.
To draft this policy, the government formed a 48-member committee under former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu. The committee organized several workshops in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Patna, and Gurugram, gathering over 600 suggestions from various stakeholders including cooperative societies, academicians, and state and central representatives. These inputs were incorporated into the final policy draft.
This policy marks a new era in cooperative thinking—making the sector more inclusive, transparent, and digitally enabled.
