The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to impose a ban on alcohol sales in religious cities. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has instructed excise department officials to include provisions for this in the proposed policy. After the implementation of this decision, alcohol prohibition will be enforced in 17 religious cities, including Ujjain, in MP. On January 13, the CM said, "With the budget session approaching, the government is considering amending the excise policy to impose an alcohol ban in religious cities. This could be implemented from the financial year starting April 1." To compensate for the potential revenue loss, excise officials are deliberating on opening liquor stores on the outer perimeters of religious cities.
