Ajay Kumar Takes Over UPSC
Former Defence Secretary Dr. Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He will serve in this role until October 2027. The official notification was released on May 13 and 14.
He replaces Preeti Sudan, whose tenure as UPSC Chairperson ended on April 29.
Background of Dr. Ajay Kumar
Ajay Kumar is best known for launching the Agnipath military recruitment scheme and for playing a key role in the establishment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) position in India.
He holds an engineering degree from IIT and a PhD from the United States. Dr. Kumar also holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Defence Secretary in Indian history.
