AICTE's Initiative to Translate Engineering Textbooks into 12 Regional Languages

AICTE's Ambitious Plan to Provide Engineering Books in 12 Regional Languages by December 2026

On April 8, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) announced its ambitious plan to make engineering textbooks available in 12 Indian languages for all engineering diploma and degree courses by December 2026. The translation of textbooks for different subjects and academic years has already begun.

AICTE oversees technical institutions affiliated with universities and autonomous institutions. These textbooks, available in Indian languages, are aligned with the AICTE model curriculum and will cover key branches of engineering such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science.

AICTE Chairman, Professor T.G. Sitaram, mentioned that approximately 600 textbooks have already been prepared for first and second-year engineering diploma and degree courses. These textbooks have also been uploaded in the 12 regional languages. The languages include Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
