Abhishek Sharma Becomes World No. 1 T20I Batsman Without Playing
In a historic moment for Indian cricket, Abhishek Sharma has become the world’s No. 1 T20I batsman, according to the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday. This feat places him among a select few, as he becomes only the third Indian to top the T20I batting rankings—something legends like Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, and MS Dhoni never achieved.
Abhishek overtook Australia’s Travis Head to claim the top spot. India’s Tilak Varma continues to hold the third position, while Suryakumar Yadav is the third Indian in the top 10, currently ranked sixth.
The 24-year-old has had a remarkable start to his T20I career. He made his debut against Zimbabwe on July 6 last year, scoring a century in that match. In just one year, Abhishek has played 17 T20Is, scoring 535 runs including two centuries—an extraordinary rise to the top of world cricket.
