9 September - Abdelmadjid Tebboune's second term as President of Algeria.

In the recently held presidential election, 78-year-old outgoing Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was re-elected with a huge majority. According to Mohamed Charfi, head of Algeria's National Independent Authority for Elections, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune won 94.65 percent of the valid votes. Presidential elections were held in Algeria on 7 September 2024, in which about 5.6 million out of 25 million voters voted in the election. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has been elected for a second five-year term. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was first elected as the President of Algeria in 2019, which was boycotted by the opposition. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, seen as the candidate backed by the Algerian military, defeated his rival, conservative Abdelali Hassani Cherif, who won 3 percent of the vote, and socialist Youssef Ouachiche, who won 2.1 percent. Since independence, Algerian politics has been dominated by the Algerian military or politicians backed by the military. Algeria is a Muslim-majority Arab country located in North Africa. The country was a French colony and gained independence on 5 July 1962. Algeria is the largest country in Africa by area.
