Aarit Kapil Becomes Youngest Indian to Achieve IM Norm
Aarit Kapil, a 10-year-old chess prodigy from Delhi, has achieved a remarkable milestone at a very young age.
He became the youngest Indian to earn an International Master (IM) norm after drawing his final round match against Australia's Samuel Asaka at an international chess tournament held in Menorca, Spain.
Aarit achieved this feat at the age of just 10 years and 7 months, setting a new record.
He started the tournament strongly, defeating former World Under-20 Champion and Grandmaster Kazybek Nogerbek of Kazakhstan in the second round.
Winning the Under-11 National Championship last year proved to be a turning point in his career.
Currently, Aarit is ranked second in the world rankings among players born in 2015.
One of his most memorable performances came against 12-year-old International Master Faustino Oro from Argentina, often referred to as the “Messi of chess.” Aarit displayed great composure and secured a draw, gaining global attention.
