Aadi Vaani: A Step Towards Permanent Preservation of Tribal Linguistic Heritage
On September 1, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Dr. Kunwar Vijay Shah, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the unprecedented initiative to preserve tribal languages, dialects, and culture through the development of the AI-based translation tool "Aadi Vaani".
As part of the “Tribal Pride Year” initiative, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, launched the beta version of "Aadi Vaani" on Monday in New Delhi. The launch was presided over by Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Shri Durgadas Uikey.
"Aadi Vaani" is an AI-powered translation tool designed to connect tribal communities and preserve their cultural identities. It will assist in the digitization of indigenous languages, and improve access to education, healthcare, and governance in native languages. Furthermore, it will promote tribal entrepreneurship and act as a valuable resource for researchers.
The tool has been developed under the leadership of IIT Delhi in collaboration with BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Naya Raipur, and tribal research institutes in Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Meghalaya.
