The 20th edition of the India-US joint military training 'Yudh Abhyas-2024' began on 9 September at the Foreign Training Center in Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. This exercise will run from 9 to 22 September 2024. This exercise has been conducted alternately between India and the US every year since 2004. In this edition, the scope of the joint exercise has increased significantly in terms of military strength and equipment. The Indian Army contingent of 600 personnel is represented by a battalion of the Rajput Regiment as well as personnel from other branches and departments. The US contingent of equal strength is represented by soldiers of 1-24 Battalion of the 11th Airborne Division of the US Army based in Alaska. The aim of this joint exercise is to enhance the joint military capability of both sides to conduct counter-terrorism operations in sub-conventional scenario under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. This exercise focuses on operations in a semi-desert environment. The tactical exercises conducted during this combat training include joint response to terrorist action, joint planning and joint field training exercises which will help in real world counter-terrorism missions. 'Yudh Abhyas' will provide an opportunity to both sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures for conducting joint operations. This will help in developing interoperability and camaraderie between the two armies. The joint exercise will also enhance defence cooperation, which will further enhance bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
