8 June - Indian Navy's Sub Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev became the first female helicopter pilot.

After 22 weeks of intensive training in the Indian Navy, Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev has become the first female helicopter pilot to receive the 'Golden Wings' medal. A passing out parade ceremony was organized at Naval Air Station INS Rajali, in which Rajeev was awarded the 'Gold Wings' by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev has become the first female helicopter pilot of the Indian Navy. She has received the prestigious 'Golden Wings' medal after completing rigorous training at a naval air station in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. At the same time, Lieutenant Jamyang Tsewang, the first commissioned naval officer from Ladakh, also successfully graduated as a qualified helicopter pilot. "A passing out parade ceremony was held at Naval Air Station INS Rajali after 22 weeks of intensive training that included rigorous flying and ground training at Air Squadron 561, the alma mater of all 21 helicopter pilots of the Indian Navy," the Navy said. Of these officers, Sub Lieutenant Rajiv and Lieutenant Sewang were awarded 'Gold Wings' by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command. In 2018, Flying Officer Avani Chaturvedi of the Indian Air Force created history by becoming the first Indian woman to fly a fighter aircraft solo. She flew a MiG-21 Bison on her first solo flight.
