In the Panchayat Raj system, Gram Panchayats are also expected to have their own income from taxation and tax collection to discharge the responsibilities and development works assigned to the Gram Panchayats. In the district, Swanidhi se Unnati campaign has been implemented as a pilot in 39 panchayats to increase the revenue of panchayats through taxation. Chief Executive Officer District Panchayat Mr. Siddharth Jain said that the work of tax collection from taxpayers is being done by registering all eligible taxpayers in the panchayats on the portal and determining taxes at the correct rates. For transparency in the campaign, tax determination, issuance of demand notes and tax collection in bank accounts is being done through online portal. During the campaign period, 2118 new taxpayers have been registered on the Panchayat Darpan portal in these 39 Gram Panchayats. Due to new registration and tax collection efforts, the tax revenue of these panchayats has increased by Rs 1.90 crore during the campaign period. The District Panchayat CEO said that pleasant results of increase in Panchayat income are being reflected in the campaign. Panchayats have become ready to do more work for village development with the amount received in Panchayat revenue.
