38,000 Anganwadi Centers to Be Built in Madhya Pradesh, Only 1,400 Built in 5 Years
For nearly a decade and a half, women and children have been a priority for the government of Madhya Pradesh. However, even today, 40% of the 97,000 Anganwadi centers either do not have their own buildings or are operating in dilapidated buildings. The construction of new buildings is ongoing. In the last 5 years, only 1,399 new buildings have been constructed, meaning only an average of 300 new Anganwadi centers get a building every year.
If the current pace continues, it will take more than 100 years to build buildings for all the Anganwadi centers. The state has a total of 97,329 Anganwadi centers. Of these, 34,143 Anganwadis do not have their own buildings and are operating in rented spaces. The annual rent for these centers amounts to ₹6 crores.
