Kamal Chawla of Bhopal, employed in Indian Railways, has become the IBSF World 6 Red Snooker Champion. In the title match of the World Championship played in Mongolia, Kamal defeated Asjad Iqbal of Pakistan 6-2. This is Kamal's 15th medal in 52 international competitions. Earlier, he was the runner-up in the 2017 World Championship.
After Pankaj Advani, Laxman Rawat and S Srikrishna, Kamal has become the fourth cueist of the country to win the World 6 Red Snooker Championship title. He is the second player after Pankaj Advani to have played in two finals of the World 6 Red Snooker Championship. Madhya Pradesh's first international snooker player Kamal Chawla did not have a good start in the final match. Pakistan's Asjad tried to put pressure on Kamal by making the score 2-0 by winning the first two frames 47-23, 47-18. Kamal soon found his rhythm by making a break of 71 points in the third frame. He won this frame 71-0 and made the score 1-2. After this, Kamal kept forcing the Indian players and supporters present in the hall to clap with his game with every shot. Kamal displayed excellent game in the match and won the next 5 frames 41-7, 64(40)-0, 43-0, 33-20, 36-29 points and achieved the proud feat of becoming the World 6 Red Snooker Champion for the first time. Kamal has been awarded the Vikram Award by the Madhya Pradesh Government in the year 2011.
It is worth mentioning that Kamal did not get a grant from SAI to participate in the World Championship. Due to which his entry was confirmed at the last moment. He had to bear the entire expense of the competition from his own pocket. After winning the World Championship title, Kamal has got entry in the World Games to be held in Chingaru.
