The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh took a big step on Tuesday and decided not to pay income tax on the salary and allowances of the Chief Minister and ministers.
This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. However, many states have already given up on this years old rule. There the Chief Minister and Ministers pay the income tax on their salary and allowances themselves.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government had stopped this system in September 2019. Apart from this, the Uttarakhand government in 2019, the Punjab government in 2018 and the Himachal government in 2021 have withdrawn from it. However, in Haryana, Bengal and Chhattisgarh, the income tax on the salary and allowances of the ministers is still being deposited by the government there. There is also a BJP government in Haryana and Chhattisgarh. In such a situation, the governments here can also implement the system like MP.
In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, income tax on the salary allowances of the Chief Minister, Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the State Government has been paid by the State Government itself. At present, there is no Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir and no change has been made in the relevant law. In such a situation, whenever the Legislative Assembly is formed, the government will have to pay the income tax of the Chief Minister, Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
