If everything goes well, the country's first hydrogen train will be seen running on the track from the month of December and January. The country's first pollution-free train will be run on the 90 km distance between Sonipat and Jind. In the same sequence, a plant is being built to store 3,000 kg of hydrogen at the railway station of Jind district of Haryana. Underground storage is also being prepared here. Machines have also been ordered for operating the hydrogen train. Its trial run will be conducted in the months of December and January. After this, work is underway on the plan to run it regularly in this financial year. After Sweden, China, Germany and France, India will be the only country to run the hydrogen train. This train will be capable of running at a speed of 140 km per hour. It will give mileage equivalent to 4.5 liters of diesel on 1 kg of hydrogen. It can also be considered quite good in terms of pollution. The hydrogen train will be operated using electricity generated from hydrogen and oxygen. It will be able to cover a distance of 180 km in 360 kg of hydrogen. It will have 8 to 10 coaches. 2.4 MW of electricity will be required to pull them. To meet this requirement, two power plants will be installed inside the train. After the successful trial in December and January, the railways plan to start 30 such trains on Matheran Hill Railway, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kalka-Shimla Railway, Kangra Valley, Nilgiri Mountain Railway Heritage and mountain routes in the next 3 years.
