16 October UNESCO accepted the dossier to include Orchha in the World Heritage List.

The dossier (compiled document) prepared by UNESCO to include the historical group of Orchha in the World Heritage List has been accepted. On the recommendation of the Central Government, Indian Ambassador to Paris Vishal V Sharma handed over the dossier of Orchha to the Director of the Center at the UNESCO office, Lazareiloundouassomo. In this, it has been recommended to declare the historical group of Orchha as a World Heritage Site in the year 2027-28.

Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture Department Shiv Shekhar Shukla said that the acceptance of the dossier by UNESCO is a proud achievement for the cultural and historical heritage of the state. Orchha is known for its unique architectural style and rich historical significance. This will further strengthen the global identity of the historical heritage of Orchha. Also, Orchha will become a major center of attraction for international tourists. The collector said that every year the central government recommends to UNESCO to nominate one heritage of the country in the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are 14 sites of the state in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The temple group of Khajuraho, the caves of Bhimbetka and the Sanchi Stupa are included in the permanent list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Orchha selected

It is known that a proposal was prepared by the MP Tourism Board in the year 2019 and 2021 to include Orchha and Bhedaghat in the tentative list of UNESCO. After this, the Archaeological Survey of India considered it eligible and forwarded it to the World Heritage Section of UNESCO. After this, the Tourism Board, with the help of expert institutions, prepared the dossiers of Orchha, Mandu, Bhedaghat and sent it to the Archaeological Survey of India.
