Giving a Diwali gift to the central government employees and pensioners, the Union Cabinet has approved a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief during its meeting held on October 16. After this increase, DA has increased from 50 percent to 53 percent of the basic salary. Lakhs of government employees will benefit from this decision of the central government. Dearness allowance is calculated on the basis of All India Consumer Price Index. There is a revision in DA every 6 months. Dearness relief is given to retired central government employees. DA is announced in March and September. The announcement of DA increase in January goes till March. Similarly, the announcement of DA increase in July goes till Diwali. After the three percent DA increase, the basic salary of an entry level government employee is expected to increase by Rs 540 on a monthly basis. This decision of the government will provide relief to about one crore central employees and pensioners. Employees are also expected to get the arrears of July, August and September. An increase in DA was expected after the Union Cabinet meeting on October 9. However, central employees and pensioners had to wait a little longer for this amendment.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 16 announced the increase in the minimum support price (MSP) of all important Rabi crops for 2025-26. According to the information given by the CCEA, the highest increase in MSP has been made for mustard by Rs 300 per quintal, followed by Rs 275 per quintal for lentils. There has been an increase of Rs 210 per quintal, Rs 150 per quintal, Rs 140 per quintal and Rs 130 per quintal for gram, wheat, safflower and barley respectively.
