The Assam Secretariat became the first green headquarters (eco-friendly) of a state government in India on June 16 with the inauguration of a 2.5 MW solar power project on its premises. State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave this information.
Addressing an official program here, he said that this grid-connected and rooftop solar power plant installed at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore will save electricity bills worth Rs 30 lakh every month.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on the social media platform 'X' after the program, 'Today we have taken a big leap in our goal of becoming a 'net-zero' government, as I inaugurated a 2.5 MW solar project at Janata Bhawan, making the Assam Secretariat India's first green secretariat. '
He said that the secretariat complex will now have power supply completely from solar energy, which will save electricity bills worth Rs 30 lakh every month.
The Chief Minister also said that the government has decided that solar panels will be installed in all official premises. He said that it will start from medical colleges and universities across the state.
