India on 15 September launched Operation Sadbhavna to help Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar deal with the effects of a major storm. Various parts of Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam are reeling under severe floods due to the impact of 'Yagi', which is said to be Asia's most powerful storm this year. Landslides occurred a week before the impact of this storm in the South China Sea, due to which more than 170 people died in Vietnam and about 40 people died in Myanmar. The Ministry of External Affairs said that "Operation Sadbhavna" is part of a broader effort to contribute to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) region in line with India's 'Act East' policy. India has sent humanitarian relief assistance of US $ 1 million to Vietnam and US $ 1 lakh to Laos. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that 10 tonnes of relief material including ration, clothes and medicines have been sent to Myanmar from naval ship INS Satpura. A C-17 military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force delivered 10 tonnes of relief material to Laos, while 35 tonnes of aid is being sent to Vietnam. Jaishankar said on the social media platform 'X', "India has launched Operation Sadbhav. Expressing its solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is sending aid to Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos.
