Indore district has won the 5th National Water Award in the western region category, which was announced on October 14. Under the first category of river revival, restoration of river banks and protection of floodplains, the district implemented intensive catchment treatment, afforestation and more than 800 water and soil conservation projects in the catchment areas of rivers like Ajnar, Balam, Choral, Karam, Moral and Patalpani. These efforts significantly improved the health of these water bodies and more than 2,000 recharge and treatment works were also completed. "In the construction of artificial recharge system category, the district carried out 448 nala digging works through MNREGA, which effectively increased the groundwater level. Additionally, the Pushkar Dharohar Yojana restored over 400 water resources, increasing water storage capacity by 1.6 million cubic metres and benefiting 1,585 hectares of agricultural land." The National Water Awards recognise outstanding contributions to water conservation and management practices across the country. These awards are given by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
