The name of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium as the new Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. With the President's seal, the Law and Justice Department of the Government of India will issue a formal notification of his appointment. Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia is currently posted as the senior-most judge in the Punjab Haryana High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge in the Punjab Haryana High Court on 30 September 2011. He became a permanent judge on 24 January 2014.

With the new Chief Justice Sandhawalia taking charge, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva will become an administrative judge. The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, has mentioned in the proposal sent to the President that the Punjab and Haryana High Court is one of the largest high courts in the country. Therefore, it would be appropriate to appoint senior judge Sandhawalia as the Chief Justice of the MP High Court.
