The second Arihant class submarine 'INS Arighat' was inducted into the Indian Navy on 29 August 2024 in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. In his address, the Defense Minister expressed confidence that 'Arighat' will further strengthen India's military strategy (nuclear triad) of nuclear weapons on land, water and air platforms, enhance nuclear deterrence, help establish strategic balance and peace in the region and play a decisive role in the security of the country. He described it as an achievement for the nation and a testimony to the unwavering resolve of the Government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to achieve 'self-reliance' in defense.
Achieving this capability has been a result of hard work and synergy of the Indian Navy, DRDO and the industry. The industrial sector of the country, especially MSMEs, has received a huge boost through this project and has generated more employment opportunities.
The construction of INS Arighat involved the use of advanced design and manufacturing technology, extensive R&D, use of special materials, complex engineering and highly skilled workmanship. It has the distinction of being fitted with indigenous systems and equipment which were conceptualised, designed, manufactured and integrated by Indian scientists, industry and naval personnel. The technological advancements made indigenously on this submarine make it significantly advanced compared to its predecessor Arihant. The presence of both INS Arihant and INS Arighat will enhance India's capability to deter potential adversaries and safeguard its national interests.
