India Successfully Tests Agni-5 Missile with 5000 km Range

India has successfully conducted the test of its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Agni-5. The test was carried out on August 20 at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.

The Agni-5 missile is equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, allowing it to strike multiple targets simultaneously. This makes it a significant advancement in India's strategic defense capabilities.

The first test of the Agni-5 missile took place in April 2012. With a range of 5000 kilometers, the missile can reach countries like Pakistan, China, and Turkey.

Capabilities and Features

• Range: Up to 5000 km
• Payload: Capable of carrying a 7500 kg bunker-buster warhead
• Can destroy enemy nuclear systems, radar installations, control centers, and weapon storage facilities
• Can penetrate up to 100 meters underground
• MIRV technology enables targeting of multiple enemy locations

With this successful test, India has significantly strengthened its long-range strategic deterrence capabilities.
